Damsel with a broken foot

February 7, 2010 § 18 Comments

So I broke my foot.

Actually I didn’t, its just a sprain and I felt like saying that. Somehow I managed to twist my foot yesterday. We went to a clinic nearby where they thought it was a fracture and recommended us to go to Rashid Hospital – and they said it wasn’t. So I’m assuming its just a sprain.

I Can barely walk and Ive got it all bandaged – this means I’m stuck at home for a week or so and Im supposed to rest in bed. Which I really can’t do for a whole darned week considering Ive got classes to attend. Nearly ending my course in a month or so and I don’t want to miss out on the last few juzz’ of the QurΓ‘n.

On a side note, I’d like to say I absolutely support Women going into the medical field. They make lives for other Women so much easier. Although islamically if it’s a medical reason you can expose the injured bodyparts to a Non-Mehram male for treatment it was utterly embarrasing showing half of my leg to the guy who was bandaging it. He was decent and Muslim – but I was cringing from inside. Sigh.

I guess Ill be more online this week – lets see!

This template is far better. Have a calm n peaceful look πŸ™‚

  • PostMan says:

you know what would have made a great story? you stumbling and twisting your foot due to niqab as it somehow blocked your view and then a storm of comments building up to discuss the benefits and nightmares of niqab. Then the discussion turning, ultimately, to morality.

(what the hell is wrong with me?)

But na, I guess this is ok. So how is your foot now?

    • PD says:

Lol, that is so typical bollywood! Ok, well not the Niqab but, but the stumbling and twisting. πŸ˜›

It’s better now, thanks for asking. But it still sucks being stuck at home, limping around and having 100MG of Voltaren everyday.

“An Arab ambassador called off his wedding after discovering his wife-to-be, who had worn a face-covering veil whenever they met, was bearded and cross-eyed, the Gulf News reported
    (AFP/File/Philippe Desmazes)”

    😐

  • PostMan says:

but you do agree there is an inherent risk there for us males? :p

Otherwise the situation could be kinda… ‘So as I was saying *swift movement of hands and peekaboo under niqab!* oh thank god you are a female!’

    • PD says:

Actually Islamically you’re supposed to look at a person before marrying. This can be found in several ahadith where the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam would command the Men & Women to look each other.

It’s both the guys and girls fault [or more like the girls mother] He didnt practice his Islamic right by asking to look at her without Niqab & the mother used deception by showing him the sisters picture instead of her.

  • PostMan says:

I am not ridiculing religion or niqab πŸ™‚ its just a very funny situation!

    • PD says:

I feel bad, for both the guy & the girl. :/ Not to mention, totally not looking forward to how the Media is going to pounce on this & make Niqab look like the source of all evil. *sigh*

  • PostMan says:

Quite honestly.. I find the ‘checking up’ part really distasteful Its just like similar in Pakistan where the girl has to bring in tea so that the prospective guy could check her up! I mean this is ridiculous! and totally offensive for girls.

I may not have a suitable alternative for this but the checking up part.. really I cant digest that.

And dont worry about ridiculing niqab in media thingy.. it’ll keep on continuing regardless.

  • PD says:

I dont think theres anything particularly disgusting.. Its not like she has to take her hijab off or anything, but just that you should *know* who you’re getting married too. Also, this happens when you know the guys kinda serious about proposing.

I know its uncomfortable, [although alhamdulilah, havent experienced it yet because never go any suitable proposals that I was willing to consider] – but it beats marrying an unknown person, for both people.

Dude, you *cant* compare this to the whole Pakistani thing that goes on where the girl comes in to serve tea and everyone sizes her up, from her clothes, to her weight to her height. *shudder*

  • PostMan says:

OK may be not as disgusting as the pakistani thingy. I agree to your statement that ‘just that you should *know* who you’re getting married too.’ That makes hijab and stuff irrelevant frankly cuz what matters most then is family and acquaintances. And in this story of saudi ambassador mind you, we are talking about a ‘fraud’ and that can happen to anyone.

  • PD says:

Okay, i kind of agree and disagree with you. Yes, family is also relevant but so is the person who you’re getting married too!

In fact, regardless of the whole uncomfortableness of the situation id think it would be odd if some guy who wanted to get married to me didnt want to see my face.

Also, i believe in finding out more information about the potential and getting ti know them, simply because the family could be practicing something and the kid could be on some other deep end.

    Issues these days. *sigh*

  • Haris Gulzar says:

Thats sad to know. Get better soon IA. And about the niqaab, it isn’t part of a lady’s satar is it? It is only her own will to cover her face otherwise she isn’t bound to do so Islamically is she? And plz also correct me if Im wrong, a non-mehram can only ask to see a lady if he’s serious in proposing and wants to decide if he likes the prospect or not?

And besides, I suppose Islam prefers that ladies stay at home as housewives, leading to Islam allowing ladies to disclose injured body parts to non-mehram males,, obviously only for the sake of diagnosis and medical treatment…
